Why are you asking me for parental consent?
If a player indicates that they are a child under 13 years old (or the applicable age of digital consent in their region), privacy laws may require that the player's parent or guardian provide consent for the player to access an online game or app that collects their personal information.
If a player indicates that they are a teen between 13 and 17 years old (or the applicable age of digital consent and age of majority in their region), other laws may require that the player's parent or guardian provide permission for the player to access certain game features, such as making certain in-game purchases.
Your email was provided by a child or teen who wants to play our games or access certain game features that require parental consent. Due to their age, we are contacting you to give you information about their request, give you an opportunity to provide your consent, and verify that the person providing consent for the child or teen is in fact an adult.
How do I provide consent for my child or teen?
As part of the request for parental consent, we provide you with information about how we collect, use, and disclose personal information in connection with your child or teen's request. If you agree with these practices, you can indicate your consent by following the on-screen prompts and verifying that you are an adult.
To verify an adult's age, we have partnered with Kids Web Services ("KWS"). KWS is a service offered by SuperAwesome. After you provide consent for your child or teen’s request, you will receive an email from SuperAwesome asking you to provide information verifying your age. You can learn more about SuperAwesome and KWS in SuperAwesome's privacy policy.
What personal information do you collect when my child plays your game?
When your child self-identifies as under 13 years old (or the applicable age of digital consent), we collect their date of birth, country/region, and your email address for the purpose of obtaining your consent. After we receive your consent, we collect additional personal information from your child depending on the parental controls you select. This information may include account and profile information, user-generated content such as username, custom maps, communications about the game (with us and with other players), and gameplay information; device and other technical and network information, approximate location based on IP address, and third-party platform account information. For more information about what information we may collect and how we use it, please see our Privacy Policy.
After you provide consent for your child to play the game, you will be provided with a Parental Controls PIN. You can use this PIN to control what game features are available to your child. Certain features such as social chat, in-game purchases, and custom usernames are disabled by default until enabled by a parent.
How does age verification through SuperAwesome work?
After you provide consent for your child to play the game or for your teen to access certain game features, you will receive an email from SuperAwesome requesting that you provide information verifying that you are an adult. This step is required by certain privacy laws.
You will be able to choose from different methods to verify you are an adult. These methods may include making a small charge to a credit card (which will be refunded to you) or providing limited government identification information, such as part of a social security number. The information you provide is used solely for verification purposes and is not saved by us or by SuperAwesome.
Once you are verified as an adult, SuperAwesome remembers this across games and services that use its technology.
What if I don't agree to provide parental consent?
If you do not complete the parental consent process, we will delete the data associated with your child's request after 14 days or your teen will not be able to access certain game features.
How do I revoke the consent I previously provided or delete my child's account?
How do I configure parental controls?
Please follow these steps:
- Take note of the PIN provided to you after you complete the parental verification process. Store it securely and do not share it with your child.
- On your child's device, navigate to "Parental Controls" under the game's "Settings". Enter your PIN. You will then be able to review or change parental control settings for the game.
- If your child plays multiple games with us, please repeat the steps above for each game.
- If you forget your PIN, you can request to reset it under the "Parental Controls" menu. A new PIN will be sent to your email address.
